Rhodes Island – think of this name and the first set of thought to cross the mind is blue waters, huge coast line, beaches, sand and Ferries. Water transport is by far considered the best way of travelling to any island vacation journey. This mode of transport gives you the best view and the feel of a vacation trip to an island as beautiful and scenic as the Rhodes island. Also, being an island, Rhodes has many options of ports and smaller harbors that is best suited to travel through the waterways. Being so close to the ocean, and in the middle of both Greece & Asia, the Rhodes is one of the best destinations for travelling by the sea and getting to a harbour which is closest to your destination on the island.
The highest frequency of ferries is from Pireaus which is on an hourly basis and these leave between 1pm to 6pm on most days of the week. These ferries are all scheduled for a time of the day and this schedule can be found at all local news outlets and leading news papers in Rhodes. The journey from Pireaus is about 17 hours of the beautiful coast line, however, it could get a little too much to handle at one time. These ferries can be booked while on the journey if you choose to travel on the deck, getting these seats should not be an issue. However, if you plan to reserve the cabin then it is always suggested that you get the reservation from the agent and therefore be sure of a confirmed cabin on the boat that will take you to Rhodes eventually.
Ferries can also be used to travel to a couple of other getaway destinations besides going back home. Being in the middle of the ocean, there are more than a couple of islands around Rhodes. You can pick a destination from among Kos, Tilos, Kalymnos, Simi, Patmo, Leros and Kastelorizo. Other than these few islands around the place, you can also choose to get to Marmaris which is in Turkey, but is only at a distance of a little more than an hour from Rhodes. This is one of the destinations that is most advertised even within Rhodes at various places, including most hotels that you might end up.
All in all, there is no denying that transport by sea, although longer, is a trip worth making while on the way to Rhodes.
