A Day of Hope and Giving: Walk for Wishes Unites the Rio Grande Valley

The morning sun rose over Tres Lagos, as families, friends, and local businesses came together for the 3rd Annual Make-A-Wish Rio Grande Valley Walk for Wishes, presented by Rhodes Enterprises and Matt’s Cash & Carry Building Materials, Inc. 

September 6, 2025, was a day filled with community, compassion, and purpose. This year’s event brought together 176 participants and an inspiring network of sponsors, volunteers, and supporters, all united by one mission: to make wishes come true for children across South Texas. 

Meet Zadie 

Among the highlights of the day was meeting Zadie, a 7-year-old from Harlingen, TX, whose wish came true with a trip to Disney World with her family. Her smile said it all, a moment of pure joy that touched every heart and reminded everyone why the Walk for Wishes is so meaningful. 

Every contribution, from sponsors to participants, helped make Zadie’s dream possible. Her story embodies the heart of Make-A-Wish RGV and the impact that community giving can have on families across the Rio Grande Valley. 

A Community Walking Together 

The sidewalks of Tres Lagos came alive with 5K participants. Families pushed strollers, and groups of coworkers proudly walked side by side in matching shirts while the determined raced to finish the 5K first and the winner was Make-A-Wish RGV’s very own, Erica De La Cruz-Candelaria.
